Me jookseme metsas :D

This time the title of the story is in plural (grammar all over me from day to day :)). Not only I am running in the forest. It seems that orienteering really gets popular among my new mates. Or at least this sport is mentioned in our conversations lot of times. So - we are running in the forest.
So Tuesday came and so the orienteering in Küka came. This time also Hans (swede, who , of course, is familiar with orienteering) came with us. Terrain looked trickier, greener, hillier than in Illipalu. Although Jan has done some secret trainings and Valentin has checked out IOF, and they both have got compasses, it seemed for me that this is going to be too hard for them. But they didn´t recognize this and didn´t take seriously my advice to choose less long distance than I or Hans do. Luckily the one, which we chose, was less technical. Toivo told me that my average speed will be about 11 min/km, that green the forest is. So on the one hand there was a possibility that guys will hate orienteering afterward, but on the other hand - they will face more common orienteering :)
When I got into forest I felt my lungs and legs very well functioning. It seemed that yesterdays´ walking/jogging/running through Tartu had given me some power. I imediately understood that my suspicion about hard terrain has confirmed. Not that green forest as green clearing (raspberries, ferns, shrubs, branches and so on). As usually. My orienteering skills were together with me (because my physical ones also were). At my 3rd check point I met Valentin all alone without Jan. A little confusion. That is where I started to worry about them and hoped that they are not going to run apart from each other. When I saw Jan, I was running down the slope on my way to 4th check point. The trickiest part came afterward. This is where I also got a bit of disappointment, because of torn trousers. Still I got even more worried about Jan and Valentin. I don´t know if I just haven´t run real orienteering too long or what´s wrong, but I didn´t enjoy that green, marshy, muddy terrain. So I decided to make a little longer race for me, but to do it without getting into any water. That worked and I succeeded. When I finally got back into pine-tree woods, I felt sooo good about it and could enjoy the race once again. I checked the hart rate monitor, which showed me that average HR is about 170 b/min, and I realized that it´s rather comfortable for me.
I did my 5,2 km long distance in exactly 54 minutes, which means - a bit less than 11 min/km. Guess, why? Because I´m too moody to go through swamps? :D
So my race was done, but I still had to wait for my mates. Jaagup told me that this is one of maps, where JWOC took place in 2003. That, of course, means, that terrain is worth it.
Boys came out of forest rather happy, and, of course, the first sentence from Valentin was: "I will never run orienteering again!" :D Hopefully he was joking :) They actually enjoyed the race. Maybe even more than I did, as they were running criss-cross and fighting with mosquitoes. Unfortunately they missed one point. Now I can call them real sportsmen - at least once you´ve got to miss the point :)

See on väga ilus mets.
